Fortnite

Working on a phenomenon!

After spending some time in freelance I moved to New Orleans to work at High Voltage Software and help co-develop Fortnite. I've been fortunate to wear multiple hats and really develop my skills working on one of the largest games in the world. I never worked on a online multiplayer before this, and learned on the job about all the challenges that comes with dealing with server/client relationship and designing for a wide player base. While I am unable to go into specifics on the exact things I worked on below is a detail on some of the roles I filled.

Mission Designer

Working primarily in UE 4 Blueprints and data tools I would design and implement PvE missions. Adjusting AI, encounter, objective system to create an engaging multiplayer scenarios

Technical Designer

As a technical designer I would often prototype gameplay elements and systems in Blueprints to iterate fast and allow us to determine if our designs were fun, allowing us to fail fast and pivot if need be. This often saves engineering time, allowing them to focus on important features.

UI Designer

I often was tasked with working on UI and creating UMG widgets to convey gameplay ideas. I also used both Blueprints and C++ to create the logic and get communicate between the server and client to provide information to the local player

Gameplay Programmer

One of the things I am most proud of is working on my C++ skills and proving I could code to be able to write numerous gameplay systems in C++ to help the team. As someone who hates sitting on their hands while engineering is working, this enabled me to be useful at all times of projects and assist both design and engineering team.
